Education in its broadest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character, or physical ability of an individual (e.g., the consciousness of an infant is educated by its environment through its interaction with its environment); and in its technical sense education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, values, and skills from one generation to another through institutions. Teachers in such institutions direct the education of students and might draw on many subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, science and history. This technical process is sometimes called schooling when referring to the compulsory education of youth. For example, Samuel Bowles and Herbert Gintis, Teachers in specialized professions such as astrophysics, law, or zoology may teach only a certain subject, usually as professors at institutions of higher learning. There is also instruction in fields for those who want specific vocational skills, such as those required to be a pilot. In addition there is an array of education possible at the informal level, e.g., at museums and libraries, with the Internet, and in life experience.

The right to education has been described as a basic human right: since 1952, Article 2 of the first Protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights obliges all signatory parties to guarantee the right to education. At world level, the United Nations' International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of 1966 guarantees this right under its Article 13.

What if education costs are less than your Coverdell IRA value?
Q. If the education IRA and 529 plan I have for my son grows in value such that all education expenses are completely covered, what happens with the remainder? If there is a penalty, what is the rate?
Asked by DCPete27 - Mon Dec 31 21:56:20 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Your educational IRA money has to come out by age 30 but the 529 plan has no age limit. Also, the educational IRA can be spent on any education ( high school, grade school, etc.) but the 529 plan can only be spend on college. Therefore, if it looks like you have over-funded: 1. Use the educational IRA on high school and grade school expenses. 2. Spend the educational IRA first. 3. If there is any thing left in the 529 plan when your son finishes college, leave it in there. If you end up needing it for your retirement, spend it last. You will pay income tax and a 10% penalty on any earnings in the account that are withdrawn for non-educational purposes at that time. If you don't need it for your retirement, make your son the successor… [cont.]

What is your education level and what kind of degree do you hold?
Q. I am curious about the education level of people on Yahoo answers, especially in the business section. Would you please tell me your education level and the type of degree you hold. For example, I have a Bachelor of Sceience in Business Administration with an emphasis in Strategic management and I am almost finished (March 2008) with my MBA. I am just curious to see how many people hold college or graduate degrees.

What is the difference between early education and interdisplinary studies major?
Q. I am about to become a freshman in college, and I have selected interdisciplinary studies as my major. I would like to become a kindergarten teacher. I'm not sure if interdisciplinary studies or early education would qualify me for this. So I was wondering, whats the difference between the two, and which one should I choose for my chosen career as a kindergarten teacher?
Asked by BEAUTiFUL - Mon Jul 6 19:08:01 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Early education would be the major that would qualify you as a teacher. I would advise you to find out what the licensing requirements are to become an elementary teacher; many states require that you have a certain number of credit hours in the subject (in this case, it might be 30 credit hours in education courses). Interdisciplinary studies generally is a placeholder for students who design their own educational program. As an example, someone interested in globalization or American studies might take political science courses, economics courses, psychology courses, history courses, and sociology courses that all focus on globalization or American topics, respectively.
