Q. "Mrs. Smith's biology class is doing a lab on which trait will be best in winning a thumb wrestling match. It can either be the length of the thumb, the circumference of the wrist or the circumference of the thumb. The students use a rule, string and their thumbs in this experiment. What is the independent variable? What is the Dependent variable?" So can anyone help me? What's the independent variable and what's the dependent? I really don't understand =/ Thanks so much!

A. Well, dependent variables rely on independent variables. How do you become a independent contract employee?
Q. Currently I am working as a design engineer for a medium sized company. I am looking to go independent and charge the company a simple flat hourly rate. I feel that I would be entitled to ask for more money than I currently get paid considering the fact that I would no longer be under their health and unemployment insurance. What is the independent variable and control group?
Q. In lab we experimented on pill bugs. A chamber was created by connecting two petri dishes allowing the pill bugs to move from each dish. The hypothesis was that the number of pill bugs in an area is dependent on wetness- the more wet the dish the more pill bugs. Therefore one dish was wet and one dry. Five bugs were initially placed in each dish. What is the independent variable and the control group of the experiment. I thought the wetness would be the independent variable and the 5 pill bugs in that started in the dry dish to be the control group. However the teacher marked these answers as wrong. Does anyone know the right answer?

Can you buy a Mercedes from an independent dealer, or do you need to buy from a licensed MB dealer?
Q. I am looking at purchasing a preowned Mercedes S430 and there is inventory at both licensed dealers, as well as at independent dealers throughout the Los Angeles area. Q. I am a full-time student, and did not live with my parents all year. Yet I am still under their health insurance until I turn 23 this year. My mom still claimed me as a dependent which resulted in owing $4 and getting no money back. I pay for school, and everything thing else, besides half of my rent each month, which my mom pays. I have had a job all year. Can my mom legally claim me as a dependent? Would I still be able to claim myself as an independent?

A. One generally can take an exemption for any dependant if you provide more than 50% of their support. If in doubt, the IRS has a formula to figure. You have to provide the potential dependant's social security number and, of course theirs on your Return. I say the IRS has a formula because, if there is a dispute and both parties made 3400.00 or over, the other party could claim the exemption if the IRS ruled in their favor. You may be eligible for the earned income credit also if you worked. If you are supporting yourself, it means you provide over 50% of their living expenses. For your parents to claim you, they must pay more than half of the cost of keeping up a home for the year. You can determine whether you or they paid more than… [cont.]

Q. What is in it for an independent consultant representing a specific company? What do they get out of it, is it like they are sub-wholesalers?

A. There is a lot to be gained. You gain friendships, independence, freedom, time, and money. It is way better than working a 9-5 for the rest of your life and pretty much being a glorified slave.
