Would it be a turn off to buyers if the garage is filled with the stuff removed from our home for "staging"?
Q. We (3 adults & 4 small children) will be living in our 1800 sq ft home while we try to sell it. I plan to remove a ton of stuff for "staging" to make the home show better and look larger etc. If the attached garage is used as storage for all the boxes and extra furniture will buyers be scared away or turned off? Do we need to bite the bullet and rent a storage unit? The laundry area is also in the garage so they will definitely see it in a walk through with their agent.

A. Put all the stuff that you intend to use after selling your house in a storage unit. Discard those things you don't need anymore, by either donating them or bringing them in the dumpsite. Buyers also check out the garage and you don't want to show them a cluttered garage.

What happens to items used in "home staging?"?
Q. I am just curious: when sellers or realities stage a home with towels, plants, nick-nacks...etc., what happens to those things when the house is sold? Do they belong to the seller or does the buyer actually take them back for other staging purposes? Just curious...thanks!

A. they belong to whoever provided them. if the seller hired a staging company, the staging company owns them probably - buyer certainly does not get them - you should be moving into an empty house unless you bought a house including furniture, etc ( I did that 2 yrs ago) - there wasn't anything "staged" though

What are some good ideas to "stage" a home that is for sale?
Q. I am packing everything personal up,cleaning and organizing but I need some simple and elegant ideas to "stage" the home so that it is more appealing to buyers.

A. 1. Clean - it is the most important step. Make sure every nook and cranny of your home is spotless. This also includes cleaning out your garage if you have one. 2. De-clutter - Not only should you remove obvious clutter (like papers strewn on a desk) but you have to think about furniture as well. Too often people have too much furniture in a room. It makes the room appear small. If, for example, you are 2 dressers in your bedroom, pare it down to one. Put the other dresser and contents not used currently (season clothing) into storage. An often missed area for decluttering,is the inside of dressers, cabinets, and closets. Hard to believe that some buyers would look in your dressers since they are not buying them but they do. Has anyone ever used "staging" to sell a house?
Q. My father passed away in January and my mother came to live with me and my family. I am now in the process of getting her house ready to sell. I have redone the hardwood floors, repainted the inside and outside of the house, re-roofed the entire house among many other fixer upper things to detail before we put it on the market. I held an Estate Sale 2 months ago to whittle down the things she would no longer need and now the house is bare. I have been reading about "staging" a house when getting ready to sell and I was wondering if anyone out there had an experience they would be willing to share.

A. You can try to make the house appealing - yourself! The key is to showcase the best parts of the house. Keep it open, neat and clean and LIGHT. Does it have a nice fireplace? Make sure it is clean and not blocked from view. Arrange the furniture in that room to focus on that area. Place as little furniture as possible in each room. That exposes the walls and the floors and makes the room feel bigger. If the furniture is old fashioned, ugly, or stained and ratty, it is sometimes better not to have it in the house at all. It will date and distract the house, and be a turn-off. Sometimes a simple modern chair with a small table in the corner is more effective than a room full of old stuff. Take out all artificial plants and flowers, dying… [cont.]

Q. I want to sell the house and I am intesrted in staging services. Staging is when a deigner comes in and stages the house to highlight its best features. What is the cost of this service? Thank you

A. The problem with even trying to give you a ballpark is that I have no idea where you are or what would need to be done: rates would be dramatically different if you were in, say, Los Angeles than if you were in Anytown, USA; do you need major help or just a little push and plus here and there? The only definitive advice I would give: don't invest in this service unless you have already had your home on the market for awhile and have not yet successfully sold it. And do research regarding your home's value The charge is going to be related to how much the consultant feels he/she has to do in order to bring your home up to "selling speed". This would mean either: removing a significant amount of your belongings in order to… [cont.]

Home made "stages" for babyfood?
Q. I've made all my 9 month son's food at home, with a food mill, or the food processor, and I'm wondering what others do for "stages..." I see in the store that there are "stages" for baby food, and I wonder what other mom's are doing to make their own baby food once the plain old puree is too boring for them? He eats everything so far, and seems to like it all. I've given him fish, chicken, lamb, etc. as well as lentils, eggs, and every fruit and veggie I can think of! Should I just make the veggies chunkier, with little pieces in the puree? Of course anything I can cut into a cube works too, as finger food, but I worry that if we switch to just finger food that he won't get enough in him, as opposed to feeding him half… [cont.]

A. "Stages" are gimmicks. For the first 50 years or so of commercial babyfood, there were no 'stages' -- just standard purees. Once baby was ready to move on, he went to table foods. If baby is ready to move on, you could go right to table foods (cut up small) for him to pick up, or lightly mash things, as he seems able. (He WILL get enough by feeding himself. He doesn't need much solid food and if anything, babies are more likely to 'overeat' from being fed purees than to 'undereat' by feeding himself. If he's hungry, he'll get the food in. If not, there's no reason to push it. )

Q.
Asked by wucetich@sbcglobal.net - Sun Jul 9 12:46:14 2006 - Renting & Real Estate - 10 Answers - Comments
A. That means to fix it up nicely so it brings a good selling price. It generally involves eliminating clutter, and making it look like a picture in a magazine. Never mind that it's impractical or unrealistic. It's "staged;" the buyer knows it, but is nonetheless influenced to make a strong offer. Good luck selling your place.

How to enlarge hole in basement block wall from 3" to 3.5"?
Q. The gas man red-tagged my hot water tank for several reasons. I'm replacing the tank but also need to change the vent from single wall to double wall (Type B Gas Vent). It goes through the block wall in basement and is very tight fit. Single wall is approx. 3" diameter and double wall is about 3.5". It needs to be double wall where it goes through the wall. How can I enlarge the 3" diameter hole to 3.5"? Can't possibly afford to hire someone. Can do water/gas hookups safely myself. Vent from exterior of block wall on up is double wall. Man said single wall vent wouldn't possibly get hot enough to ignite concrete(!) or have condensation problem if hole is TIGHT (it is, that's the problem) but his hands are tied b/c code… [cont.]

A. Get a hammer and a pointed chisel (one for metal or concrete, not wood) and just enlarge the hole. Depending on if you have 2 hole or 3 hole blocks this will be either easy or hard. (2 hole blocks have larger holes in the blocks than 3 holers) If it is a 3 hole block you may have to chip out a very large area, install the pipe and then use some cement to fill the voids around the pipe after it is installed. A library, bookstore or home improvement center may have a book on concrete that you could look through that would be helpful too.

How would an engineer "stage" a rocket?
Q. I need to answer this for a Physics lab, and I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. I think it means a "two-stage" or "three-stage" but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone heard anything specifically about "staging a rocket"? Here's to hoping a NASA engineer hangs out on Yahoo Answers ^^;
Asked by Jacob - Mon May 24 22:34:03 2010 - Physics - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Most rockets have multiple stage for a rather simple reason: performance. In order to make it in orbit, a typical rocket needs to have about 90% of its take off weight to be fuel. So there you have this massive rocket, with thrust that needs to be a bit higher than its weight (or else it won';t be able to lift up at all). But some way up, the thrust of the engines is getting too high as the weight has reduced owing to a large proportion of the fuel being used just to lift the rocket and the remaining fuel to where it is at. If the engine thrust is not reduced to match the reduced weight, the rocket would accelerate too fast and the structure would need to be a lot stronger (not to mention the problem with too high an acceleration for the… [cont.]

How long does it for a bulimic to reach "the fingerless stage"?
Q. I don't know if you understand what I mean but some people that have been bulimic for a time can after a while throw up without having to put their fingers down their throat. How long does it take to reach that "stage"? And also, how can you in the best way keep your electrolyte balances kind of stable? Is there a way? Oh, and my gag reflex seemed to stop working. What does "1 or 2 stage" refer when talking about a thermostat?
Q. I'm going to install a programmable thermostat. The one that I want says "Works W/most 1 Or 2 Stage Systems". What does this mean and how do I find out what type of system I have? Thanks!

A. A one stage thermostat is one that only controls one unit. So if you have window air conditioners and a furnace for heating, its a 1 stage system. The two stage systems control two units. Some people have one furnace for the first floor, and one for the second floor. This would be a 2 stage unit. If you have two heat units, and central air it would be a 3 stage system. My house has a furnace and central air, and we have a two stage system. We just put in a programmable thermostat that was for 2-4 stage systems. Since we only have 2 stages, we had less wires to connect and we kept a jump wire in.

Why do movie companies instead of shooting movies on the street they shoot them in the "Stages"?
Q. Why do they recreate a street inside those big buildings that have "STAGE 1" written on the walls instead of going into the middle of a real Street and shoot the scene?? Why do they have all those "STAGES" ?

A. Cuz people have to use the street? lol I dunno...may be it ends up being cheaper/safer then clearing the streets.
