What happens to items used in "home staging?"?
Q. I am just curious: when sellers or realities stage a home with towels, plants, nick-nacks...etc., what happens to those things when the house is sold? Do they belong to the seller or does the buyer actually take them back for other staging purposes? Just curious...thanks!
Asked by Last But Not Least - Wed Aug 25 13:46:08 2010 - Renting & Real Estate - 2 Answers - Comments
A. they belong to whoever provided them. if the seller hired a staging company, the staging company owns them probably - buyer certainly does not get them - you should be moving into an empty house unless you bought a house including furniture, etc ( I did that 2 yrs ago) - there wasn't anything "staged" though

What are some good ideas to "stage" a home that is for sale?
Q. I am packing everything personal up,cleaning and organizing but I need some simple and elegant ideas to "stage" the home so that it is more appealing to buyers.

A. 1. Clean - it is the most important step. Make sure every nook and cranny of your home is spotless. This also includes cleaning out your garage if you have one. 2. De-clutter - Not only should you remove obvious clutter (like papers strewn on a desk) but you have to think about furniture as well. Too often people have too much furniture in a room. It makes the room appear small. If, for example, you are 2 dressers in your bedroom, pare it down to one. Put the other dresser and contents not used currently (season clothing) into storage. An often missed area for decluttering,is the inside of dressers, cabinets, and closets. Hard to believe that some buyers would look in your dressers since they are not buying them but they do. They are also… [cont.]

Does anyone know how much "staging" costs when selling a house ? At least what is the ball park?
Q. I want to sell the house and I am intesrted in staging services. Staging is when a deigner comes in and stages the house to highlight its best features. What is the cost of this service? Thank you

A. The problem with even trying to give you a ballpark is that I have no idea where you are or what would need to be done: rates would be dramatically different if you were in, say, Los Angeles than if you were in Anytown, USA; do you need major help or just a little push and plus here and there? The only definitive advice I would give: don't invest in this service unless you have already had your home on the market for awhile and have not yet successfully sold it. And do research regarding your home's value The charge is going to be related to how much the consultant feels he/she has to do in order to bring your home up to "selling speed". This would mean either: removing a significant amount of your belongings in order to… [cont.]

Home made "stages" for babyfood?
Q. I've made all my 9 month son's food at home, with a food mill, or the food processor, and I'm wondering what others do for "stages..." I see in the store that there are "stages" for baby food, and I wonder what other mom's are doing to make their own baby food once the plain old puree is too boring for them? He eats everything so far, and seems to like it all. I've given him fish, chicken, lamb, etc. as well as lentils, eggs, and every fruit and veggie I can think of! Should I just make the veggies chunkier, with little pieces in the puree? Of course anything I can cut into a cube works too, as finger food, but I worry that if we switch to just finger food that he won't get enough in him, as opposed to feeding him half… [cont.]

A. "Stages" are gimmicks. For the first 50 years or so of commercial babyfood, there were no 'stages' -- just standard purees. Once baby was ready to move on, he went to table foods. If baby is ready to move on, you could go right to table foods (cut up small) for him to pick up, or lightly mash things, as he seems able. (He WILL get enough by feeding himself. He doesn't need much solid food and if anything, babies are more likely to 'overeat' from being fed purees than to 'undereat' by feeding himself. If he's hungry, he'll get the food in. If not, there's no reason to push it. )

When you are selling your home, and the realtor wants you to "stage" your home, what does that mean?
Q.
Asked by wucetich@sbcglobal.net - Sun Jul 9 12:46:14 2006 - Renting & Real Estate - 10 Answers - Comments
A. That means to fix it up nicely so it brings a good selling price. It generally involves eliminating clutter, and making it look like a picture in a magazine. Never mind that it's impractical or unrealistic. It's "staged;" the buyer knows it, but is nonetheless influenced to make a strong offer. Good luck selling your place.

How to enlarge hole in basement block wall from 3" to 3.5"?
Q. The gas man red-tagged my hot water tank for several reasons. I'm replacing the tank but also need to change the vent from single wall to double wall (Type B Gas Vent). It goes through the block wall in basement and is very tight fit. Single wall is approx. 3" diameter and double wall is about 3.5". It needs to be double wall where it goes through the wall. How can I enlarge the 3" diameter hole to 3.5"? Can't possibly afford to hire someone. Can do water/gas hookups safely myself. Vent from exterior of block wall on up is double wall. Man said single wall vent wouldn't possibly get hot enough to ignite concrete(!) or have condensation problem if hole is TIGHT (it is, that's the problem) but his hands are tied b/c code… [cont.]

A. Get a hammer and a pointed chisel (one for metal or concrete, not wood) and just enlarge the hole. Depending on if you have 2 hole or 3 hole blocks this will be either easy or hard. (2 hole blocks have larger holes in the blocks than 3 holers) If it is a 3 hole block you may have to chip out a very large area, install the pipe and then use some cement to fill the voids around the pipe after it is installed. A library, bookstore or home improvement center may have a book on concrete that you could look through that would be helpful too.

How would an engineer "stage" a rocket?
Q. I need to answer this for a Physics lab, and I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. I think it means a "two-stage" or "three-stage" but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone heard anything specifically about "staging a rocket"? Here's to hoping a NASA engineer hangs out on Yahoo Answers ^^;
Asked by Jacob - Mon May 24 22:34:03 2010 - Physics - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Most rockets have multiple stage for a rather simple reason: performance. In order to make it in orbit, a typical rocket needs to have about 90% of its take off weight to be fuel. So there you have this massive rocket, with thrust that needs to be a bit higher than its weight (or else it won';t be able to lift up at all). But some way up, the thrust of the engines is getting too high as the weight has reduced owing to a large proportion of the fuel being used just to lift the rocket and the remaining fuel to where it is at. If the engine thrust is not reduced to match the reduced weight, the rocket would accelerate too fast and the structure would need to be a lot stronger (not to mention the problem with too high an acceleration for the… [cont.]

How long does it for a bulimic to reach "the fingerless stage"?
Q. I don't know if you understand what I mean but some people that have been bulimic for a time can after a while throw up without having to put their fingers down their throat. How long does it take to reach that "stage"? And also, how can you in the best way keep your electrolyte balances kind of stable? Is there a way? Oh, and my gag reflex seemed to stop working. If I stop throwing up, will it eventually restore itself? Thank you.

Eventually, if you don't get help, REALLY bad things will happen to your body, mind and soul. I know because I was bulimic for almost 3 years. You need to tell someone and get help before this gets ugly, OK? I know you probably think that you aren't one of those people who gets really sick from it. You probably think you can stop any time and you aren't 'addicted' to it, or that it won't give you side affects. That's exactly what I thought. Why do movie companies instead of shooting movies on the street they shoot them in the "Stages"?

Q. i'm involved in a production of R&H's "Cinderella" and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to achieve an onstage "magical" transformation from rags to her ball gown. Thanks!

A. fog machine. to achieve the effect, hold a large tube in front of the nozzle. when the smoke comes out of the machine it's kind of hot so the smoke will be all over the place. by using the tube, the smoke will be able to cool in the enclosed chamber leaving you with a thicker mystical cloud. just as the cloud covers her, she can remove the rags with a gown hidden under it. adding to the general effect, strobe lights and maybe some glitter.

What does the film term "split-staging" mean?
Q.
Asked by Arizona C - Thu Jan 10 10:46:22 2008 - Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Here's an online dictionary of film terminology, although I don't know if you'll find it there. I took several film classes during my undergrad, and I don't remember that one. I'm assuming it has something to do with making use of split screen to show two things happening at the same time, but I can't be sure. If that's a term you're expected to know, I would expect that you should be able to ask your film teacher or look in your text book and then peruse your college's library for books on film and cinematography.

How long is the "honeymoon stage"?
Q. I was just curious on how long the infamous "honeymoon stage" lasted for, typically. Is it different for everyone? Also, how do you know when it's over? What are the signs?
Asked by Gorudu - Tue May 17 09:46:26 2011 - Singles & Dating - 1 Answers - Comments
A. In my opinion, maybe between 6 months till 1 year (also depends on how much you see each other for). You probable know when the relationship gets more serious, you guys talk about the future together (i.e. being together, engagement, marriage, kids, etc...) But to the honest the signs are in the grey area, the ones i listed above is not a concrete answer, maybe it more of a guideline or something. You probable feel it later on and than you will have your sign, so this depends on your relationship. There is no set signs.

What does it mean when, during flooding, a river "crests" and reaches "flood stage"?
Q. I just read an article about a river close to where I live. Because of all the rain we've had recently, this river "crested" at 61 feet. I don't quite understand what that means.

A. Usually river depth and "crest" are measured from the bottom of the river at some location, say a bridge, or a piling driven into the riverbed for this purpose. Crest is the highest level the measurement reaches after it starts rising. Flood Stage is the depth at which the river begins to overflow its banks. The location of the bank is pretty arbitrary, but always defined so as to indicate that a higher water level will damage something.

Q. What is that cane looking thing called in old cartoons that pulls characters "off stage" when they are booed or do something bad? Generally speaking, not relating to any specific cartoon...just old ones! Anyone have any idea of what I'm talking about??

What kind of hairstyles can be considered "too feminine" for a guy?
Q. Just wondering really, growing my hair out. I don't have a feminine face at all really and i have a little weight to lose. Also, any "awkward stage" tips? If i leave it as is without doing anything, it looks rather silly. When it's long enough i may experiment with styles.
