Remember the original thumb assist to open a folding knife?
Q. Years ago, there was a metal thumb opener that could be attached to the back of a blade on a folder knife like the Buck 110. It was a simple design made of a single piece of stainless and allowed the knife to be opened with one hand, like the knifes of today with a built in one. I am looking to one to put on my Schrade LB7 folder, any suggestions on a source? Thanks, God bless.

How to make a program on a thumb drive autorun on insert?
Q. I've been toying around with batch codes and such. It's fun to make your friends think they have a virus lol. I was wondering how you would make it run off a thumb drive as soon as you inserted it though.

What the rule of thumb for calibrating digital multimeters?
Q. Hmm, I asked a minute ago but the question was deleted. We are allowed to ask about the tools of the engineering trade here, are we not? I heard a rule describing the what type of meter is required when calibrating a multimeter... For instance, do I need to use a meter with 2x the accuracy to calibrate another meter? I know there's a "rule of thumb here," just need to be reminded what it is. Thanks.
Asked by John - Thu Mar 13 10:42:48 2008 - Engineering - 1 Answers - Comments
A. I do not know the specifics, but you send the unit to the calibration lab to get is calibrated. They will adjust it with higher precision equipment that is set to NIST Standards. This site should be useful. specifically the link "electromagneti c"

How do I improve feeling in my thumb after a cut has scarred?
Q. A year ago I cut my thumb. I should have gotten stitches, but didn't, it has healed, although with a scar. For the first few months I had no feeling in half my thumb, but that has comeback. It now feels like that pins and needles feeling you get when your leg falls asleep. The problem I'm having is with the build up of scar tissue. When I grip things it feels like there is a hard lump. It's not painful, just uncomfortable. Anything I can do? Will it get better with time?
Asked by David G - Sat Feb 14 14:39:12 2009 - Other - Health - 1 Answers - Comments
A. You may need to go to the doctor to have some of that scar tissue removed. Have a doctor check it out just to see if it is healing properly.

If your baby sucks their thumb, does it have any visible effect on their teeth?
Q. My son is a thumb sucker. He's 10 months old, his first bottom tooth is out and it seems crooked. It's the left tooth and he sucks his left thumb. What is your experience with sucking thumb and teeth? Any tips? Thanks!

A. My son is a thumb sucker, his teeth are fine so far (he's 4 and he's been getting better, only does it at night now). We asked our dentist about it and he said it's not a major problem until they get to be about 5 or 6 years old. I will warn you, however, that it's a tough habit to break because you can't take away their thumbs. We've been working on it for a while and he's getting better but he really has no desire to stop.

How easy will the goalie k18s thumb joint break?
Q. I just got the goalie k18s and the thumb is really stiff. I want to bend the joints and loosen them but I dont want to snap one. How can I create and attach a gigantic thumb to my finger (for a Halloween costume)?
Q. For Halloween this year, my costume will require one very large thumb (about twice the size of a normal thumb). How can I create this thumb and keep it attached for the entire evening? It is an essential part of my costume. A glove would not work, I need to attach something to my thumb itself (preferably just the end of my thumb so that it can still bend). Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

A. Well, twice the size is not gigantic in my opinion, which would require one several inches across. Because of your description, I would say the easiest way for a one time use would be wrap the end of your thumb with white sticky adhesive tape, sculpting as you go to form the finger nail, and then use various paints normally used for painting models to provide the flesh tone and details - you will have to mix colors to match your skin. You may wish to use latex mold compound to cover edges and to make a more skin-like appearance It could also be done with theater makeup but that is messier. You will want to do this at least once in advance to practice the process and judge how well it stays on or how to wrap to not be too tight.

How to transfer songs form thumb drive to i Tunes permanently?
Q. My friend gave a thumb drive with 500 songs on it, so I highlighted all the songs and dragged them into my itunes library. I can play them fine, until I take out the thumb drive, so the itunes will say original file can't be find. How do I put them on my itunes library permanently?
Asked by Buddha - Thu Mar 3 00:30:29 2011 - Music & Music Players - 2 Answers - Comments
A. Nothing is "permanent" because you can always choose to delete it. If you have a PC then open up 3 windows. 1 the thumbdrive (the folder of the songs not every individual song), My Music (there should be an "i Tunes" folder as well), and i Tunes itself. Move or copy all of the songs into the My Music folder or i Tunes folder. Once finished then go into i Tunes, press file, add folder to library, and there you go. Hope I helped! :D

A. You can go to a stationary store and purchase thumb indexes. Too bad you want them for a translation that has been made to support false doctrines though. New World Translation Bible - Is it Credible? Jehovah s Witnesses claim that the New World Translation (NWT) Bible is the work of competent scholars. Conversely, they contend that other Bible translations are corrupted by religious traditions that are rooted in paganism. In reality, the NWT is the work of a Bible Translation Committee with no working knowledge of biblical languages. How much would two thumb sized dents on the rear bumper of a tiburon be to repair and paint?
Q. I know its the internet and you can't see the visual but I just sorta want a guestimate. It's two thumb really small dents and it'd probably need repainted even though the paint isn't really that damaged.

A. If the paint is not damaged, have a paintless dent removal guy take them out. Will cost you $60 or so. A body shop will charge you a couple hundred to to remove, sand, and paint the area.

What is the difference between a tom thumb and curb bit?
Q. What is the difference, if any? And what bit would you recommend for barrel racing? I'm thinking about buying either a tom thumb or curb bit for that. Thanks in advance!

A. A Tom Thumb has a jointed mouth piece like a snaffle, which is why many people mistakenly call them "Tom Thumb Snaffles" A curb bit has a solid mouth piece. I prefer a curb over a Tom Thumb because they are milder, with the TT's you have the leverage of the shanks (which you also have with a curb) AND the nutcracker effect of a snaffle. You can turn your horse's mouth real hard real quick with a TT if you're not careful. If your horse goes well in a curb stick with that. Edit: Maybe I should have been clearer since I said pretty much what everyone else did and I'm getting TD'd. A Tom Thumb has a jointed mouthpiece LIKE a snaffle (what comes to mind when most people think snaffle). It also has shanks which makes it NOT a snaffle.… [cont.]

How can I tell if my thumb is broken or fractured?
Q. I was wrestling the other day, and I my thumb got stuck on my partner while practicing a move. There was an immediate burst of pain then that has calmed down since. But my thumb has swollen to double it's size, turned sslightly purple at the base and middle, and am getting minimal movement. What is a good position to place my thumb on the neck of the guitar?
Q. When you're playing barre chords, regular chords, picking, etc. Should I have my thumb pointing up, sideways, or just do what's comfortable?
Asked by B.J. - Tue Feb 16 10:36:26 2010 - Performing Arts - 3 Answers - Comments
A. The proper place you put your thumb is straight up on the back of the neck. Make sure the pad of the thumb is firmly touching the back of the neck. This position lets the "opposable thumb" do its job correctly. It's the position where you'll gain the greatest benefit in pressing down the strings. In fact classical guitarists must keep their thumb pretty much in this position full time. However, with acoustic guitar, you can experiment with bringing your thumb over the top of the neck to help you out with some chords like D/F#. However, once you move your thumb out of place, you will immediately lose finger strength. So, straight up on the back is the best position. Why my thumb keeps moving whenever I do the thumb around?
Q. I've been practicing the thumb around for a couple of days now. But every time I spin my pencil, my thumb keeps moving out of the way. It won't stay still. Any tips?
Asked by Amy T.s - Wed Jan 5 23:12:25 2011 - Hobbies & Crafts - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Here is a good tutorial and this tip: Have the pen so that it is on a 90 degree angle with your thumb, it should look like a T from the top, with your pen being the horizontal line and your thumb being the vertical line. Your index and middle fingers should be placed just like a normal thumbaround and the cop should be about a few centimetres to the left (for a righty) of the thumb. Do a push like the thumbaround, make sure your thumb is completely flat and is resting on your middle finger after the push. It should spin on your thumb. have fun

Are wrist and thumb injuries a major problem for linemen when playing football?
Q. I am working on an engineering project where we have to come up with a problem and solve it. But first, we have to justify that the problem we come up with really exists as a problem in the real world. I need to know if wrist and thumb injuries to offensive and defensive linemen is a justifiable problem that, when solved, would decrease the risk of injury.

A. I remember when I played tight end, and broke my thumb. In practice when I would get in a 3 point stance and put the weight on my hand it hurt very bad. So yes it can pose a problem. Because the line man might have to shift all his weight to his legs, which might make him unbalanced and also make him tired much quicker. Just screws up timing

What size thumb drive for picture storage?
Q. I have a digital camera, & instead of printing the pictures at walmart or walgreens, i just store the pictures on my computer. I would like to buy a thumb drive to store the pictures also, that way if my computer would blow up or get a virus then i wouldn't lose all the pictures if i have them stored on a thumb drive. How many gb would be a good size thumb drive to store photos? thanks.

A. USB drives (pen drives/thumb drives) are cheaper than ever. Doesn't about matter what you store but the amount of quantity you store. High performance drives include Sandisk Cruzer Contour Editions. Sony Micro Vault Turbo, Sandisk Cruzer Colours, Sandisk Cruzer Titanium. Each model comes in a range of sizes depending on your needs (2gb,4gb,6gb,8g b,16gb) Prices can range from $10 to $200 Normally a 4GB or 8GB model will be more enough (store over 5000-1000 photos) and priced around $20 to $80 respectivly. Each is priced relatively similar. Don't go for cheap ones like Adata or Kingston drives as they are under-performer s, unreliable and have lower life span.
