How come I see a lot of answers for questions with a thumbs down?
Q. I have noticed that on a lot of answers for questions there is a thumbs down. I see good answers and they have a thumbs down (usually 1). I also see a thumbs down on every single answer on some questions, it's almost like someone is just going down the list of answers for a question and putting a thumbs down.

A. Some people who disagree with the opinon will give the answer a thumbs down because they think it will make the answer seem negative, so other people won't be as affected by the answer ... that, or they just have no life and think its funny. There's a lot of teenagers on this site, I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Q. in real life? Wouldn't that be cool if say someone was in the express checkout with 32 things and everyone walked by giving thumbs down? Or say you work at McDonalds and someone comes up and orders 12 Big Macs from you, and you just gave 'em a thumbs down?

Do you get an automatic thumbs down from an opposing religious person when you state your faith?
Q. If you state the fact that you are an atheist or an agnostic, do you also get the feeling that you get the thumbs down, no matter how intelligent your answer is. Same for Christians though... I have given many Christians kudos for good answers. Is this really a mature platform to share ideas, if people tend to be so bias?

Q. When people ask what you would do, or if something does or doesn't work for you and you answer, why does it get a thumbs down? I respect their opinon not to agree with mine, that is the beauty of YA, to find out what others think, or know, I just don't get why we can't all just get along on here. A. Well, there are some pro ass wipes here and then there are followers. The pros will give a thumbs down to everyone, it does not matter what the question is.. The followers will go after a certain person anytime they see them and just give them a thumbs down, just for the hell of it!! I have a few of those that really "love" my answers and I am used to it. You know, come to think of it, getting thumbs down here, with the exception of a few people, is like a badge of honor, the more truth you put out there, the more some people hate it. A. They don't, for the most part ! A lot of posts and responses are generated by subcontracters who work on behalf of yahoo / bots, If you have enough multiple accounts, enough time, and the inititiave to mark accounts with block icons, you can actually observe certain accounts dealing out the same ratio of thumbs down. It's mostly automated so dont take it personally. As for genuine askers / answerers - because they disagree with your opinion or misunderstand you. ed- Did you ask this so you could thumb down and laugh at the irony? you are the prankmaster zzzzz

Q. I try not to give them if someone is honestly trying to make their opinion known. I do give them to those who I feel put very little thought into their answers or make belittling comments. I do admit that I don't give thumbs down to those smart a$$ answers if I find them humorous. Just curious to what makes you do this.

How is it possible for me to get thumbs up/down as soon as I post an answer?
Q. Like, as soon as I type my answer and hit "submit", the very second it shows up under the question, I'll already have a thumbs up and a thumbs down. Q. Like humans have thumbs, made for grasping things. But really, lets say a dog or dolphin had the intelligence of a human, could they create what we have today? Q. Just out of curiosity, what things inspire you to give answers a low rating? I usually do if I think the comment is rude or extremely unimformative, like the person might as well have just not bothered answering at all. In questions that ask for opinions I usually see many more thumbs down (and up for that matter) on answers because I suspect that people just thumbs down anyone that they don't agree with. I give a thumbs down when a) the answering person is completely off-base b) the answer has nothing to do with the question c) the person attacks someone who is obviously in pain It all depends on the question. I give thumbs up when a) the answer is correct in my opinion b) someone makes an honest attempt to answer the question c)the person has every right to be offended at a question but is mature enough to respond with an open opinion. d) the answer actaully lists good information and good perspective e) I learn something myself :)

Q. On this website message board when someone asks a question or if I answer a question, there are thumbs up and thumbs down signs. What do those mean? Who rates them? How does that work? Can someone explain that. A. TU/TDs are available for all users to use, if they are above Level 1. THey are to indicate a agreement with an opinion or answer, so the person does not have post another version of the same answer. In most categories they mean nothing, but in some like the sciences, they are useful to indicate wrong answers. Take a simple question. What is your favorite color? (note this question is a violation, but for illustrative purposes here). If you answer pink and someone answers blue, instead of other people answering blue or pink, they just TU/TD the answers. If they don't like your pink and are neutral on blue, they may TD you and do nothing for the other answer. It is nothing personal, it is just away of agreeing or not. However, thumbs… [cont.]

A. The answer is hidden from you. Nothing else happens. It doesn't cause violation notices or anything like that. The writer doesn't even get notified of low ratings.
